Summer update
A couple of things….
First of all, good news! My higher-ups have finally informed me that they have figured out how to fund my job until December! Also, my job will not change at all. This was a concern of mine as I have my hands in a lot of exciting projects at work right now and I didn’t want to stop.
So, what happens in December? The idea is that during this time the higher-ups will be searching for more sustainable funding. This is where it gets really cool… *get excited*… The Runaway and Homeless Youth Act, that I bugged everybody for months to call their legislators about, might be what funds my position! Wouldn’t that be so cool? To directly feel the results of getting involved in policy. It shows what people can do. Really. When I was doing all that organizing around RHYA, I did not even think it could be money to fund my position.
Lastly, another nerd/ work thing. Yesterday, I nervously lead my first meeting of the Conflict Resolution Work Group under the Heading Home Hennepin, plan to end homelessness. This group is going to be exploring how conflict resolution and family reunification happen for youth in Hennepin County. Then we will make the suggestions for what will actually be put in place to keep youth at home, before they become homeless. Why am I excited about this? I am chairing the group that will actually be making big decisions about how this will happen. It’s a lot of pressure, but really exciting to think that huge changes will come out of this big plan.
And for more fun stuff, Paul and I will be heading up to Bayfield in a few weeks. It’s a family trip with Mom, Steve, and Kelsey. One last vacation before my life turns into chaos with school.
