i haven’t written much lately, especially as winter settled in. i decided tonight to write a little update of what has been going on in our lives. excuse the rambling…

the coldest weekend of the year was the first weekend in february. i’m sure no minnesotans reading this need reminding of that! kelsey came over and stayed the weekend. we camped out watching weeds and desperate housewives series rented from our favorite nicolette village video. on saturday morning we ordered caffreys for breakfast. it felt illegal. however, i must say and leave it open for any south minneapolitan to dispute, i feel caffreys has gone down hill recently.

the cold has kept me in a winter slump. i miss the sun so much! i’m starting to look transparent. this has inspired paul and i to daydream about summer activities. we are looking forward to borrowing my dad’s ancient kayak for the summer. we are planning to rent a spot to lock it down at lake of the isles. next time i get busted at hidden beach, i’ll have a getaway plan. take that park police! ha!

paul has been busy working. he is doing some work for the walker art museum and teaching his class at mcad two nights a week. we still find time to hang out, like our adventure to the science museum on valentine’s day. we went to the race exhibit and saw hurricane on the bayou at the omni theater. the race exhibit was well done and insightful in my opinion. i really appreciated the examination of race as a social construct and how that developed. also, how we categorize race and why that matters… i really appreciated that it wasn’t just a lesson on stereotypes and how we should all just get along. they actually talked about white privilege. read about it, challenge yourself and what you’ve always known to be true.

i was able to catch a show this weekend. i saw charlie parr and trampled by turtles at first avenue. it was a benefit show for a bunch of nonprofits, actually. the guy in trampled by turtles said that people who work at nonprofits are “the ones really doing it”. at this point rebecca and i turned to each other and laughed… “if they only knew!” ha ha ha! this was a fun night. i drank one too many of first avenue’s infamous tall beers and then we went to o’donavans across the street for a night cap. that place was crazy. i ran into a girl i took ballet classes with in high school. that was funny.

anyway, so this is how paul and i have been surviving the winter. in a few weeks kelsey turns 21. if we live through it, i’ll be back with some pictures!
